First Hawaii did the original prelim and title search but when we rec'd a Full Price Cash Offer the buyer chose another company. Unfortunately this company was really giving the seller a hard time. She is a 96 yr old, blind and has been moved to assisted living. The other company was suspicious and needed to talk with the seller before allowing escrow paperwork to be signed by her power of attorney. They were making things challenging for our seller. After out clients son was present with his mother for the necessary escrow phone call. The son wanted to change escrow companies as the escrow officer was making things far more difficult than necessary. We asked to amend the contract to use First Hawaii and our sellers were very happy with the results and how easy it was to work with them. Jessica and Marlene made this a breeze and it was a quick closing.

Laureen Leong and Rhodlyn Watai did a great job. Everything went fairly smooth. My only complaint is the First Hawaii does not have an office in Hilo. I didn't want to incur wire transfer charges, and didn't want to travel to Kona, so I mailed the two deposits, not ideal but it worked. As a realtor, I would not have chosen First Hawaii Title because of your location. If you wait for the numbers, you are never going to open an office in Hilo. If you opened an office, I think your Hilo business would start growing immediately. You would have my business.

My understanding is that if a Seller is going to force the use of a title company they are responsible for all the costs. Other than that, great and smooth transaction. I would use Stason again.
